Considered a pioneer of coffee production in the region, he became one of the first farmers to cultivate coffee in this valley, purchasing land from indigenous people after being encouraged by the government to clear land at high altitudes as a foreign agricultural worker. The farm was named after Baroida, the spirit residing in a large rock in a nearby river. Gradually expanding the farm, he established a wet mill and became a well-known and significant coffee producer in the region under the name Colbran Coffeelands.
